The process begins with an evaluation by a team of medical professionals at Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, Connecticut, and at other key medical, drug rehab and alcohol treatment centers throughout the United States. The team assesses an applicant's suitability to participate in the Israeli drug and alcohol treatment program and looks at whether there are any underlying medical or psychiatric conditions (commonly referred to as 'dual diagnosis'). If a dual diagnosis is found and a determination is indeed made that the applicant could benefit from participation in the drug rehab and alcohol treatment Therapeutic Community in Israel, then a course of action is developed.

A recommendation might be made that treatment begin in the United States at an addiction treatment center such as Silver Hill Hospital before the applicant can go to the drug rehab and alcohol treatment Therapeutic Community in Israel. Once the applicant completed this step, he or she will travel to the Therapeutic Community in Israel, where the American and Israeli health care professionals collaborate on an addiction treatment protocol, which ensures continuity of care.
