Drug and Alcohol Treatment - Testimonial |
Tekuma Recovery Group recommends a uniquely effective Therapeutic Community in Israel which features drug and alcohol treatment for both first-time addicts and those who, despite their repeated attempts at sobriety, have a history of multiple relapses. An essential ingredient in this Therapeutic Community approach is that addicts will establish physical and emotional distance between themselves and all of the familiar people, places, and things that continue to have a negative powerful influence on their behaviors.
Tekuma Recovery Group Recovery Group does not recommend what is common to other drug and alcohol treatment programs, namely a Club Med-like experience with the familiar amenities such as a pool, golf and tennis courses and gourmet cuisine. Tekuma Recovery Group believes this atmosphere insulates addicts both from the culture around them and their own inner spirituality. Rather Tekuma Recovery Group recommends a drug and alcohol treatment program that requires addicts to be completely enmeshed in the Israeli culture surrounding them. By developing comfort with the unique Israeli culture of cohesive mutuality, self-reliance and individual courage, in conjunction with the absence of familiar people, places, things, food, and especially language, there is an increased likelihood participants will achieve lasting sobriety.
Many of the applicants to Tekuma Recovery Group are already well versed in 12 step addiction treatment programs. (The Therapeutic Community will also provide an introduction to those who are unfamiliar with the steps.) However, this addiction treatment program in Israel differs significantly from traditional 12 step programs because of its location in Israel and the Kibbutz-like environment, commonly referred to as a Therapeutic Community, where self-reliance and self-respect is fostered through mutual self-dependence.
The concept that addicts frequently use language for the sake of gamesmanship and to maintain their self-destructive addictive behaviors is central to Tekuma Recovery Group's drug and alcohol treatment philosophy. Typically, addicts are skilled narrators whose fluency in their mother tongue creates only an illusion of change. It may seem counterintuitive, but addicts who share their "war stories" actually help each other maintain their addictions rather than overcome them. By living in Israel in a residential drug and alcohol treatment Therapeutic Community where the language will at first be largely unfamiliar, the addict will struggle with new words and meanings in an atmosphere of love and support |

Why Israel
Therapeutic Communities in Israel offer an exceptional opportunity for addicts living in the United States to achieve lasting sobriety. Because the treatment takes place in Israel, the addict will achieve his sobriety as a result of social-educational processes unique to Israel.
Living far from familiar people, places and things, and by simultaneously being immersed in the Hebrew language and culture, the addict will reexamine his often too smoothly told repetitive life narratives. His inevitable struggles with the Hebrew language and necessary adjustments to Israeli culture will facilitate challenging his old rationalizations and stories... Read More |
