A Unique Jewish Rehabilitation Center for Drug and Alcohol Addiction | TekumaRecovery.com

Tekuma Recovery Group evaluates and assesses treatment needs for people addicted to drugs and/or alcohol. Tekuma selects appropriate applicants to participate in a unique Therapeutic Community in Israel.
The Therapeutic Community approach is one of mutual self-help with members acting as “brother’s keepers”, and staff acting as role models and rational authorities. A caring surrogate family is formed that provides a corrective developmental experience and a mirror through which each individual can raise his self-awareness as the community gives continuous feedback.
The focus in a Therapeutic Community is on helping individuals to “get in touch” with their feelings and addressing common antisocial personality characteristics and drug-seeking behaviors. In contrast to the medical or traditional mental health model, residents of a Therapeutic Community take full responsibility for their addictive behavior – they ‘do’ treatment rather than passively receive treatment. Positive peer pressure places the onus on the individual to change behavior. Engaging in interpersonal relationships with positive role models replaces the more dependent patient-therapist relationship model.
Tekuma is a Hebrew word that generally means resistance, recovery, revival and resurrection. After the European Holocaust in which six million Jews lost their lives, the word took on special meaning with miraculous rebirth of the State of Israel.
